Abstract

The European Pillar of Social Rights was launched by the European Commission in 2017, with the aim to deliver new and improve the existing social rights in the European Union. It is an expression of the political commitment of Europe’s leaders to make it really social. Its goals are to ensure quality employment, adequate social protection, and universal access to community-based services in all EU member states. The present paper makes estimates about the potential effects from the implementation of specific measures of the European social pillar on the Bulgarian economy and society. In particular, the impact of the following three initiatives within the pillar will be explored: 1/ the impact of the Minimum Wages Directive proposed by the European Commission on the Bulgarian workers’ wellbeing 2/ the impact of Work-life Balance Directive on Bulgarian workers’ and families’ wellbeing; 3/ The potential impact of the Child Guarantee for vulnerable children initiative on the Bulgarian society.
