Applying ABCDE and Assessment for Personal and Social Learning to Studying the Classics to Gain Self-Knowledge for Self-Governance in a Social Contract Mapped to the Sustainable Development Goals, Their Moral Principles and the European Qualification Framework Competences.

Abstract

Education policy and systems need a road map to achieve: i) Target 4.7 of the Sustainable Development Goals to: ‘ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including, among others, through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development’ and ii) the four strategic objectives of The Education and Training European and Policy Cooperation Framework (ET2020): Making lifelong learning and mobility a reality; Improving the quality and efficiency of education and training; Promoting equity, social cohesion and active citizenship; Enhancing creativity and innovation, including entrepreneurship, at all levels of education and training. These objectives are met with a roadmap; ‘Assessment for Personal and Social Learning’ to validate key competences of ET2020 applying ‘A Blueprint for Character Development for Evolution’ (ABCDE) to Empowers Young Societal Innovators for Equity and Renewal (EYSER). Students can map the development of their ET2020 competences using APSL and ABCDE in a Classics curriculum to meet the ET2020 four strategic objectives. This creates and propel personal and social development for a sustainable cultural, economic, ecological and political social contract for peace and prosperity in a quadruple helix that is kind to people and planet (United Nations, 2016).
